Hawaiians Gather to Support Hurricane Harvey Victims

On Sunday, October 1, 2017 many coaches and players from around Hawaii gathered at the Sacred Hearts Academy Gym for a basketball camp. The sole purpose of the camp was to raise money to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston.

Professional trainer, Matthew Conboy flew down from Oregon to run the 1 day camp. Over 150 kids from Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island came to attend the basketball camp.

Athletic Director Ryan Hogue was very generous in allowing the camp to he held at their gym. In addition, Coach Richard Kasuya and Coach Brad Chun, both coaches at Sacred Hearts volunteered to coach at this camp.

In addition, Hawaii Storm Coaches Alan Ching (Former Punahou School Varsity Assistant), Zachary Stephens (Former Punahou School Varsity Assistant), Kynan Pang (Punahou School JV), Ryan Renfro (Sacred Hearts JV), Megan Kinoshita (Sacred Hearts JV), Jordan Kealoha (Mid Pacific JV), Ashley Yamachika (Mid Pacific JV), Haku Durant (Saint Francis JV), Nicole Isemoto (Kamehameha Schools JV), Tiana Abbley (Kamehameha Schools Intermediate), Steve Hathaway (Roosevelt Varsity Head Coach), Patrick Wetzel (Former Leilehua High School Varsity Boys Head Coach), Kamaile Kahoekapu, and Darren Tom helped out at this camp.

Also, 25 players from the Hawaii Storm Basketball Club served at high school counselors to assist the coaches that were present.

Sam the Man and Hawaiian Ryan were also on hand to support the camp.

Through the generous donations made by Hawaii Self-Storage, Bank of Hawaii, Innovative Elevator Consulting, VR Junkies, Walgreens, 93.9, Marian’s Catering, and Kula Threads, the camp was able to raise several thousands of dollars that will be donated to the Red Cross targeted for the Hurricane Harvey victims.

We would like to thank everyone involved in setting up this camp and to everyone who helped run the camp.
